Match report
An excerpt from Peter Patton's 1936 Ice Hockey publication:
"Oxford won 5-3 after ten minutes over time. The play in this match, like its predecessor, was again of a very low standard, a shade better is about the best that can be said of it. No Rhodes scholars took part or it would have been the massacre of Cambridge, of course. Falls were very frequent due to insufficient skating ability; these were not to be wondered at because in those days there was neither indoor nor outdoor ice. There were no attendants with sponges, towels, oranges, etc., officially arranged for! There was however a certain 'Official' who was known as the 'Refresheree,' and who, to a certain extent, anticipated the present-day attendants to teams. When there were intervals between periods of practice each afternoon, this 'Official' would sally forth from the adjoining restaurant with greatly appreciated refreshments, not necessarily of the teetotal kind! It is not improbable that he did the same during the actual match, which would also partly account for the numerous falls!."
